Exercise and Cancer

Exercise and Cancer

By 2020, the world population is expected to have increased to 7.5 billion; of this number, approximately 15 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed, and 12 million cancer patients will die. Cancer is a genetic disease, but this does not mean that acquiring cancer is just a fatality or bad luck. Actually it is now known that most of the diseases depend on complex interactions between the individual genome and environmental factors that influence the gene expression. Not surprisingly, it has been observed that regular physical activity may play a relevant role in the prevention and treatment of cancer. This book is the result of many years reviewing and researching on this interesting relationship between physical activity and cancer, and may help students, health professionals and researchers to be introduced and updated in this emerging issue.

Toxic response oof mercuric chloride on haematology

Toxic response oof mercuric chloride on haematology

Автор:

Increase in population have led to the rapid enhancement in use of chemicals for industrial as well as house hold purposes. These chemicals affect the life of individuals and also the environment. The mercury compounds have shown ecotoxic potential. Mercuric chloride enters into aquatic as well as terrestrial ecosystem through industries. Mercuric chloride through distribution goes to the composition of the blood and affect the metabolism. The LD50 of mercuric chloride in the present investigation has been observed to be 9.26 mg/kg b.w. on the basis of probit analysis and the toxicity has been observed to be dose dependent. The effect of mercuric chloride on certain haematological parameters in albino rat, Rattus norvegicus have been observed after acute (1 day) and sub-acute (7, 14 and 21 days).

Spectrofluorometric Methods for Determination of Gemifloxacin Mesylate

Spectrofluorometric Methods for Determination of Gemifloxacin Mesylate

Автор:

Gemifloxacin mesylate is a novel fourth generation fluoroquinolone agent that is used for the treatment of community acquired pneumonia and acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis that provide high rates of mortality worldwide. Spectrofluorimetric analysis constitutes a widespread, effective technique to improve analysis selectivity and sensitivity. Moreover, it offers easy and less time-consuming analysis by using simple and available reagents, which are able to be used for routine determinations of drug substances. Therefore, spectrofluorimetric analysis is one of the major interests of analytical pharmacy. Although, limited literatures have been reported for the determination of gemifloxacin spectrofluorometrically. Therefore, the aim of this book was directed for using micelle-enhanced and Hantzsch reaction spectrofluorometric methods for developing new simple, selective and sensitive methods for determination of gemifloxacin in tablets and human plasma. Moreover, it can be effectively used for routine analysis of gemifloxacin in pharmaceutical industries, hospitals and research laboratories.

High Risk Newborn

High Risk Newborn

Автор:

A large number of infants are born with biologic or environmental risk factors that put them at increased risk for developmental disabilities such as low birth weight, IUGR, hyperbilirubinaemia etc.In the modern times with evolving technologies, the appropriate and evidence based care for high risk infants is a challenge for the medical field to provide competitive, qualitative and holistic care to the infants. Our book on «High Risk Infants» includes the brief description of the etiological factors, classification and summarized explanation of all the types of high risk infants with definitions, etiologies, clinical features, diagnostic evaluations, management and special neonatal conditions with appropriate Nursing care and Nursing care plans. The book is mainly written for the Nursing students.

Men’s Involvement in Family Planning

Men’s Involvement in Family Planning

Автор:

Over the years women have been regarded as the sole users of family planning services and little is known nearly what deters men from participating in family planning. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with men’s involvement in family planning among married men living in rural setting of Baraton Sub-location, Nandi County, Kenya. A cross-sectional study design was used and data was collected from a sample size of 250 married men. The study revealed that although men are regarded as heads of household about half(54.8%) of respondents had not used family planning. Religion, residing in urban area before, spousal communication, family clinic attendance by men and economic status were some of the significant factors that determined men’s participation in the study area. This study provides new insight and information on family planning from men’s own perspective living in rural areas in which researchers and healthcare professionals may benefit from.

Aflatoxin and Aflatoxicosis

Aflatoxin and Aflatoxicosis

Contaminations of food/feed stuffs by microorganisms are well known. Fungi amongst microorganisms are ubiquitous in nature and can grow on a wide range of substances under favorable conditions. Aflatoxin, a secondary toxic fungal metabolite produced by A. flavus / parasiticus group of fungi, is the most potent hepatotoxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic agent Aflatoxins are highly substituted coumarin derivatives containing a fused dihydrofurofuran moiety.Aflatoxin has been reported to be carcinogenic in trout, duck, ro-dents, non – human primates and human beings.Peanut and cotton, the major crops of Gujarat are rated as “ high risk substrate ” for moldy growth and Aflatoxin production Administration through oral or any other routes is effective and the cancer produced is mainly localized in the liver, colon and kidney. Visualizing the seriousness of mycotoxins problem in human and animal health, various methods to control mycotoxins contamination such as prevention detoxification has been advocated.Compounds in food that are capable of altering the metabolism of carcinogens, such as AFB1 may play a vital role in the prevention and inhibition of carcinogen modification.

Regenerative Endodontics

Regenerative Endodontics

In today’s era of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, biologically based therapies are needed to regenerate or repair natural dental tissues. Advances in the understanding of tooth development in molecular biology and cell biology have set a stage for efforts to develop strategies for regenerating dentin and pulp. This book beautifully reviews events occurring during the normal development of dentin-pulp complex. An insight into the basic knowledge of tissue engineering, including key elements i.e. stem cells, growth factors and scaffolds is presented. Latest research oriented advances in regeneration of dental tissues from the use of simple blood clot revascularization to more complex treatments like creation of tissue engineered dental pulp scaffolds in laboratory and implanting them into cleaned and shaped root canals has been discussed. As regeneration of dentin-pulp complex is still in its budding stage, various challenges encountered during these procedures have also been highlighted. We hope that this book would be an interesting and informative experience for the readers seeking knowledge in this field of recreating and repairing the lost/damaged dental tissues.
