Telecom Policies in India and China

Telecom Policies in India and China

Автор:

The number of subscribers in India increased from a mere 10 million to 926.55 million and, in China from 45 million to 975.7 million in a time span of 17 years starting from 1995. The Indian telecommunication sector has maintained the impressive growth rate. However, in China the growth is slow and the market is moving towards the state of saturation. The Indian telecom sector in the last decade has seen major evolutions due to regulatory changes making telecom as one of the major spur in India’s growth story. Indian telecom sector is the most heavily burdened with government collections by 15 to 24 per cent of revenue, whereas it is only 3.5 per cent in China. Telecom industry contributes 2% to India’s GDP and is bound to increase owing to huge urban potential and untapped rural market. Through this manuscript, an in-depth analysis of the regulatory framework and institutional features of the telecommunication markets of India and China has been presented. This book can be of great help to the policy makers and scholars working in this field.

Identifying Core and Non Core Business Functions

Identifying Core and Non Core Business Functions

Автор:

Over the last decade, new strategies have been explored to look at innovative ways of organising business for competitive advantage. The decision processes currently being used by organisations, when they make their outsourcing decisions, are not adequate for today’s business environment. This research uses a Case Based methodology involving five organisations as the primary source of data. This book is divided into three broad areas; the first area looks at the core concepts and identified limitations. The second area examines outsourcing for competitive advantage and the third covers how organisations’ determine between core and non-core functional areas and the decision process they use to decide what is core and what is not. Using comparative analysis the existing theory is compared with a practical assessment of these organisations, to understand how they identify core and non-core competencies across the functional areas of their business and how and if they are applied within their sourcing strategies. This should be especially useful to professionals and executives responsible for developing outsourcing strategies for their organisation’s.

Appraisal & Motivation Techniques in Distributed Agile Teams

Appraisal & Motivation Techniques in Distributed Agile Teams

Автор:

Reconciling the concurrent trends in software development towards distributed teams and agile development methodologies is a complicated task, and is difficult to complete successfully without compromise. While leading authorities have attempted to do so, there has been very little research done in the area of how these techniques affect employee motivation to succeed and work in a collaborative environment, nor in how the techniques help or hinder the employee appraisal process — a critical component in the employee relations of many large organizations, and one to which the waterfall development methodology often seems better-suited, with or without the additional complications of distributed environments. Here Chris shares exactly how some of the most popular solutions for handling this problem fare in the real world, backed up by empirical data and tests.

Cointegration and Causality Analysis

Cointegration and Causality Analysis

Автор:

The study investigates government expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria, using cointegation and causality analysis. The study employs Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test, Kwiatkowski, Philips, Schmidt and Shin (KPSS) Test, Johansen based Cointegration and Granger Causality Test. The ADF and KPSS tests indicate that the series are all integrated of order one [I(1)]. The Johansen Cointegration tests indicate three long–run relationships between government expenditure and economic growth. While the test for causality shows that economic growth granger-cause government expenditure. The study also indicates that there exist two unidirectional causality running from GDP to TCE and GDP to TRE which supports the Wagner’s Law. The results of Error Correction Model (ECM) have negative signs and the Error Correction term (EC) indicate that there exists long run relationship between economic growth and Government expenditure. The study recommends that government should ensure that capital and recurrent expenditures are properly managed to accelerate economic growth.

Good to Great

Good to Great

Автор:

Can a good company become a great one and, if so, how? After a five-year research project, Collins concludes that good to great can and does happen. In this book, he uncovers the underlying variables that enable any type of organization to make the leap from good to great while other organizations remain only good. Rigorously supported by evidence, his findings are surprising — at times even shocking — to the modern mind. GOOD TO GREAT achieves a rare distinction: a management book full of vital ideas that reads as well as a fast-paced novel.

Turning strategies into value

Turning strategies into value

Автор:

Business world is globalized and dynamic. The internet and brand extension, namely, have eroded traditional entry barriers. Conventional strategy models need to be reconceived for managerial relevance. Industrial organization (IO) and Resource-based view (RBV) explain different viewpoints on how a firm can achieve above average returns. This book examines their interactive effects in three different knowledge contexts: operations management, international business and organizational resource capabilities. An effective strategy is possible when there is a good fit between the organizational internal (RBV) and external (IO) effects. The findings from the rigorous triangulation case research on two interesting Chinese and an emerging firm suggest that, the interfaces between the IO and the RBV facilitate rent generation and are not necessarily boundaries. Though both paradigms have different performance dimensions, a firm’s capabilities of managing their interfaces in all organizational aspects constitute tacit strategic knowledge assets that generate competitive advantages. Scholars and managers shall find the book providing new insights on strategic and international management.
